We're Proud of You, Obama...

Um...There is just one more little thing...

But for now, we're proud of you. Because you have issued five executive orders that are light years away from the kind of thing we've been used to the past eight years. You have taken us out of the Dark Ages and back into the Enlightenment that inspired our forefathers to bring forth the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the United States Constitution in 1789. The ACLU brought these four things to my attention. You have:
Ordered Guantánamo Bay shut down
Banned torture
Ordered a full review of U.S. detention policies and procedures, and
Delayed the trial of Ali al-Marri, an ACLU client whose case is at the center of the Supreme Court’s review of indefinite detention policies.

And you have reversed Bush's health clinic gag order. This noxious order would not allow US funding for any foreign clinic in which even the mention of abortion would be uttered by clinic workers to patients, even if the health of the mother were at risk without it. Naturally, this led to clamping down on funding for family planning groups. It also put a crimp...so to speak in contraceptive education.

We are proud of you, Obama for acting rationally and reasonably in the Oval Office. This is something we have not experienced for far too long.

But there is that one little thing. How about asking your AG to consider prosecuting Bush and his criminal gang for torture and starting a war with lies? Just that one little thing--Bush and Cheney arrested and put on trial for war crimes. Would that be too much to ask?

I mean we could even forgive Bush and company for secret prisons, illegal wiretapping and trashing the Constitution if you'd just bring him up on war crimes. How's that for a compromise? We don't want to seem unreasonable. Let the 4th Amendment violations and secret prison stuff go for now.

Hey, I bet Scooter might be ready to sing. After all, he's sitting in prison without a pardon. Why do you think that pissed off Cheney? Cheney's scared. Go for it Obama. War crimes. Millions of us would cheer.

Yours truly,

NEWSGUY

I like it...and I bet you are on to something about Cheney..was wondering why he is so vocal about pardoning Libby all of a sudden. That makes sense.

I also believe there will be others start to sing a little before long. We already have one from the NSA starting to sing, talking about the wiretaps were more involved than we ever knew.. just makes you wonder how much more we never knew.

I think it will all come out soon. Then it will start to rankle everyone and the trials will begin.

Annette, I have no illusions that President Obama or anyone will ever read any of this. This blog is only my small candle in the darkness, and I feel obligated to do it, despite the fact that I know it is a Quixotic enterprise.

I write in the spirit of the activist 1960s which shaped and nurtured the way I think about my country and the world.
